Hey, Pearl fans!
I have some exciting news for you. As the managing editor, I’m going to be making some changes to The Pearl this year!
We’ll be revamping our website, giving it a new look and a new logo. We’ll also be implementing new kinds of content, with an emphasis on comedy. In this stressful age, there’s a lot of darkness. I want you to see some light. Your day deserves a bit of laughter, don’t you think? I’m looking to bring you plenty of laughter, along with conflict-heavy stories that will keep you hooked and inspired.
So don’t worry–you’ll still be getting curiously good kingdom literature delivered straight to your inbox. I just want to make sure you’re getting the best!
These are the four kinds of content I’m looking for:
Conflict-heavy stories.
I’m looking for stories that are chock-full of conflict. Stories that are driven by characters who make hard choices, for better or for worse. These stories could be action-packed sci-fi or moody literary fiction–whatever the genre, the plot should be soaking in clear conflict!
Comedic fiction.
Do you have stories that will make people laugh? That will shine brightly in this time of darkness? I’m looking for stories that folks can relax to; that they can giggle at and smile over. Whether it’s a silly adventure full of quirk, or a full-on farce, I’d love to take a look at it.
Comedy essays.
How about spreading laughter and information at the same time? What’s something you’re passionate about? Write about it! Will it be a how-to on doomscrolling? Or perhaps an editorial on why Die Hard is a Christmas movie. The ball is in your court!
Satire articles.
Are you familiar with The Onion? The Babylon Bee? I’m looking for fake news articles like those, specifically in regard to these three cultures: writing, reading, and church. Want to point out the top 5 most awkward positions to read in? What about the secret guide on singing along to a church song you’ve never heard before?

Are you pumped? I’m pumped! This is going to be an awesome year full of thought-provoking stories and gut-busting laughter.
The world needs more light. It needs more joy. It needs more stories that speak truth; that show impactful conflicts. Fiction doesn’t just let us escape from the real world for a while. The best fiction shows how the world is and how we’d like it to become. Stories like those have the power to change people’s lives and we’re so happy that you’re a part of it!
