Are you buried in story ideas and searching for opportunities to write a short story?

Over at The Company, we have a short story contest running that is ‘Buried’ themed.
Whether a character is digging up old, buried treasure, burying a skeleton in the closet, or is
buried in homework, we’d love to see what you come up with for your short story submission.

Get as creative as you want!

The contest is open for submissions right now through July 1, 2024. All styles of narrative are
accepted as long as the story is inspired by the word ‘buried’ and is 1,500 words or less. You do
not need to include the word ‘buried’ in your story.

Submissions will be judged by the first-year apprentices at The Company: Vella Karman, R.J.
Catlin, and Noah Matthews. The winner will get a $100 Amazon gift card and publication on The
Pearl. The runner-up will get a $50 credit to spend at The Company online store.

Submission is free to any writer of any age and you keep the rights to your work. For more
details, check out this article on The Company website.

Lacking inspiration? The three judges were tasked with writing their own stories to fit the submission guidelines.

R.J. Catlin: “Secret in Sand”

What happens when two friends bury a time capsule at the beach?
Noah J. Matthews: “Dead Bones”
The family bones-keeper is slowly turning into a dog; can he resist the urge to chew the bones and destroy the memories of the past?
Vella Karman: “The Fae Prince”
The Fae Prince has been buried alive again; getting out will not be as simple as he’d anticipated…
Alli Prince: “Life Isn’t Fair”
Beaten, buried, left for dead on the side of the road…but she wasn’t dead…
Have any ideas now? Go out, write ’em, and submit ’em before July 1st!
